Golf Europe was present at the 2017 EU Sport Forum, held in Malta, 8-9 March.
Following updates on EU activities and a follow-up of High Level Groups on Sport Diplomacy and Grassroots Sport, a number of specifically-themed sessions were held on topics such as Sport's Contribution to Growth and Jobs and the Role of Intermediaries and Agents (please see http://ec.europa.eu/sport/events/201700127-eu-sport-forum_en for more).
Representing Golf Europe, Mark Lichtenhein of the Ladies’ European Tour made a well-received presentation on the Opportunities brought by Innovation and Digital Technologies in Sport.
Golf Europe has also influenced the first appearance of "the environment" on the EU Sport Forum agenda providing a busy session for delegates.
As an invitee of the EU Sport Forum, European Golf Association (EGA) General Secretary, Richard Heath, made full use of the visit as guest of the Malta Golf Association (MGA) Annual General Meeting, where he presented on three topics of interest: Golf and the Environment, Implications of a World Golf Handicap System and some prospects for the EGA’s New Strategic Plan.
The previous day, Mr Heath had the honour of being introduced to Malta’s Prime Minister, Hon. Dr Joseph Muscat with Hon. Deborah Schembri MP - Parliamentary Secretary for Planning and Simplification of Administrative Processes and Hon. Chris Agius MP - Parliamentary Secretary for Research, Innovation, Youth and Sport. With MGA President, William Beck and other MGA and Royal Malta Golf Club officials, the point was made for releasing land for golf, which was positively received.
