EUROPE SUFFERS 14 ½ - 9 ½ DEFEAT IN JUNIOR SOLHEIM CUP

Team Europe has been defeated by Team USA in the Junior Solheim Cup at Des Moines Country Club, Iowa. Team USA’s victory marks the fifth consecutive time they have taken home the trophy in the biennial match. The record between the sides now stands at six wins for Team USA, two wins for Team Europe and one tied match.

The scores were tied at six points each following the first day’s four-ball and foursomes matches, with the morning and afternoon sessions both being tied at three points each. The Americans dominated the second day singles however, winning eight of the 12 matches to claim the trophy by five points.

Rachel Heck and Brooke Seay helped lead the way for Team USA, winning all their matches over the two days. The same feat was achieved by Esther Henseleit, playing her second Ping Junior Solheim Cup, and rookie, Emma Spitz.

The PING Junior Solheim Cup, modelled after the Solheim cup, and for the first time this year played at the same venue, features the best female amateur golfers aged 18 and under. 13 of the 24 ladies competing in the Solheim Cup have featured in the Ping Junior Solheim Cup in the past.

The 2019 edition will be hosted in Gleneagles GC, Scotland, September 8-10.
