Norway Lead Stroke Play Qualifying After Day 1

19 Sep 2018

The European Boys' Team Championship, Division 2 got underway in Hungary, on Wednesday morning.

Eight teams will compete over two days of stroke play and two days of match play at Pannonia Golf Club to decide who will finish in the top-three and earn promotion to next year's European Boys' Team Championship, to be held at Golf de Chantilly in France.

Norway took the lead after the day one, their five best scores from six totalling to 18-under-par.

Norwegian player, Bard Skogen, who won the 2017 boys' European Young Masters, wasted no time in putting a good score on the leaderboard for his team.

Playing in the first two-ball, Skogen made five birdies and an eagle to card a round of six-under-par 66. This score was matched by teammate, Jakob Stubhaug, who made seven birdies to also sign for 66.

Iceland are close behind in second place on 13-under-par. Dagbjartur Sigurbrandsson and Sverrir Haraldsson led the way for the Icelandic team, both finishing with scores of four-under-par. Sigurbrandsson was one-over-par after 11 but made five birdies in his seven remaining holes to tie with Haraldsson for the fourth lowest score of the day.

Portugal and Slovakia currently occupy the two final qualifying spots for the Flight A match play in third and fourth respectively.

Daniel Da Costa Rodrigues, who recently represented the Continent of Europe at the Jacques Léglise Trophy, shot the lowest score of the two teams and the third lowest score of the day, a five-under-par 67, to help Portugal to a day one score of three-under-par.
