History

The match, between U18 boys from Great Britain & Ireland and the Continent of Europe, was inaugurated in 1958. GB&I dominated the match to such an extent that it was discontinued in 1966.

It was rejuvenated in 1977 when the Jacques Léglise Trophy was presented by Jean-Louis Dupont, a renowned French amateur champion and former president of the EGA and French Golf Federation.

The event is played annually and is hosted alternately in Great Britain & Ireland and on the Continent of Europe.

GB&I have the upper hand since 1977, with 29 victories to CoE’s 13, although the match has been closely contested in recent years. Both teams have won five times since 2009, with one match tied.

The GB&I team is selected by The R&A, while the Continent of Europe team is selected by the EGA.

Format

  • 9 boys per team, aged 18 and under
  • 2 competition days of match play

Falsterbo Golfklubb will set the stage for this year's edition. The club is located just 45 minutes from Copenhagen in the south-west corner of Sweden, and is one of the oldest in the country.

With a number of holes less than a stone's throw from the beach, the course plays like a classic links.
